OOTD: Hazy Daze

The skies are the colour of the walls here, due to the crazy haze situation. Since I am indoor bound today, thought I whip up a quick OOTD post, which have been lacking from this blog lately. Sorry. Was just too busy with #projectHOME , travelling , work and a lot of errands. Anyway, I got this backpack from my recent trip to Sabah (Borneo) which I totally chanced upon. I've always wanted an authentic tribal inspired backpack and was pretty happy that I didn't need to go all the way to Peru for it.

Random point to ponder: If Peru & Borneo can produce the same type of local crafts , despite being so far away from each other, it goes to show how interconnected the world was back then....

Alor Setar: Dr. M's Home

On my recent travels up North, I visited our former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir's home in his hometown of Alor Setar. Took advantage to explore a traditional Malay kampung house and snap some lovely pictures thanks to the amazing morning sunshine we had that day...
At the entrance. It says - The birth house of Mahathir Mohamad, National Archives Malaysia.

The entire house is has an interesting juxaposition of vintage English items like the curtains and radio in the picture above and traditional kampung stuff like the kitchen and bullock cart below.

Can't help it but take an OOTD, the sunlight was just amazing, i love this photo!

OOTD: Langkawi Beach Series #3

Getting caught up in a net but not complaining because it comes with a gorgeous sunset view. I wanted to go for a vintage look with this dress paired with socks but it also turned out to be an unintentional Alice in Wonderland look lol. This marks the end of my beach series! Can't wait till the next beach holiday :)

Noon sun. Blue skies. Clear waters. Deserted beach. Perfect backdrop.

OOTD: Langkawi Beach Series #1

I've just got back from a much needed break from work. The grand plan for this trip was to just relax by the beach & pool which I really enjoyed, considering how stressful the past 2 months have been for me. This will be part 1 of a 3 part OOTD series, all of which taken at the private beach we had all to ourselves :)

Photo Diary: A'Famosa Resort, Melaka

It was raining the whole day but that didn't stop me from having fun. Glad I brought a cap & umbrella along.

OOTD: Striped tee, P&Co. Jeans, Cotton On. Ombre Shawl (Old). Cap, Souvenir from Australia.

Finished off the trip with some local grub.

I would recommend this place to people who like animals because you really get to be up close with the animals. Do get on the safari truck ride too!

Postcards from Alor Setar

Still wearing the same outfit cause I went to Alor Setar from Prai

You know you're up North when you see flat lands and paddy fields in all its glory.

It was my first time here in this sleepy town which also happens to be the hometown of our first and fourth prime minister.

Probably the only landmark of Alor Setar? The Menara Alor Setar telecommunication tower, which is the tallest building in town.

It was a really short trip, I only had a couple hours to spend here for work and couldn't really see much since I was mostly indoors. But I'm glad I got to make this trip on short notice cause at least I got a glimpse of this town I heard so much about from the people closest to me ;)

Postcards from Penang

OOTD: Plain black tee, H&M (not pictured) in conjunction with national mourning day | Faded jeans, Cotton On | Still my trusty Adidas kicks

I have a thing for hotel breakfast and i'm not shy to admit. Fortunately Gurney Hotel makes one awesome breakfast buffet! I particularly love the scrambled eggs with ham and onions.

A quick morning stroll by the sea just to pretend for a minute, that this is a holiday, when it is not.

Caught taking a selfie :p

Whats a trip to Penang without Hokkien Mee. This was from Leng Gaik at Seberang Prai right before we started our journey to Part 3 of my 2 day worktrip.

Stay tuned!

Johor Bahru: Johor Premium Outlets

OOTD: Red button down jersey shirt, Mango Suit | Navy skinny trousers cuffed at the hem, Kitschen | My trusty kicks, Adidas

During my recent work trip to Johor Bahru, I had a couple hours to kill after work and before my night flight to Penang, so my local colleague decided to bring us to Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) since it was on the way to the airport. Girls being girls, you can't resist a potential shopping trip right? I've heard a lot about JPO since it opened so I was very keen on finding out how "cheap" the stuff can get here.

Upon arrival, I must say I really liked the calm and serene ambiance that really reminded me of outlet stores in Los Angeles (not that I've been there but I've seen places like this on the vlogs of some LA Youtubers I follow). It was a Thursday evening so it was pretty quiet since it's still a work day for most people.

Upon walking the stores, I found that there were many high end brands here all having offers up to 50% - 70% off. However, I'm not a designer handbag girl so most of the stuff even after 50% off was still pricey to me! Though if you do want to buy some designer gear, I would say you could get a good deal from here.

I soon discovered that there were some lower end outlets as well, like Cotton On, Padini, Voir, Espirit, Gap, Charles & Keith and a couple others I can't remember. These were mostly located at the end of the lot and on the first floor. Some of them like Cotton On don't really give you much discounts, the discounts you find at the outlet is equivalent to those you find at their usual stores. In the end, all I got was a basic tee from Padini.

There are some cafes and a couple of restaurants around so we grabbed a quick coffee before heading off to the airport. After this experience, I would only recommend this place if you are into designer gear or if you want to get cheap stuff from outlets like Padini or Espirit but bearing in mind that these are mostly off-season pieces or basic stuff.

Stay tuned for my next travel post!
