She's actually not half Japanese--she's half Korean. Her mother's a Zainichi Korean. But yes, I just saw her debut in Norwegian Wood, and she did very well in her first acting role. Cute as a button too (she's way cuter in that movie in I've ever seen her in her modeling photos, since I think she looks best when more natural/innocent than with too much makeup).
